London Sports Massage Therapy

Sports Massage Therapy is the manipulation & stretching of your muscle and connective tissues, to enhance athletic performance. The focus is on specific muscle groups and connective tissues.

It is an interactive session, where Sports Massage Therapist and athlete work together on a plan of action rather than the more restful Swedish Massage. The two types of treatment can be combined, however

to relax hypertonic muscles,
to manage inflammation,
to remove fibrous adhesions,
to improve flexibility,
and to build a programme of action to strengthen weak muscles and look at postural and muscle imbalances.

Regular Sports Massage Therapy is a worthwhile investment as part of a complete training programme. It assists in injury prevention & promotes faster recovery from both training & injury Sports Massage Therapy reduces muscle atrophy during periods of inactivity. Sports Massage Therapists are used in competition, Pre-Event, Inter Event, Post Event and during Rehabilitation. It is an integral part of any Sports Therapy programme.

Sports Massage Therapy is useful for athletes, but also for the rest of us mortals too! Office work can be a physical and mental workout, but usually without proper warm-up beforehand and stretching afterwards. Often a lot of stress is involved: holding muscles in tension for long periods (which creates hypertonia) and repetitive strain (overuse injury).

General massage techniques will help you relax or tone up, but are also combined when necessary with more intense trigger point therapies like Neuromuscular Technique (NMT), Soft Tissue Release (STR) or gentle Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and facilitated stretching. Deep Friction can break down fibrous adhesions, which should free up muscles to help you regain flexibility and move more freely in future. Various Connective Tissue Massage techniques including Myofascial Release will help reshape the web of fascia that holds everything in place.

After a session with your London Sports Massage Therapist you should feel more flexible and limber. You may feel tired for a day or two, as if you have had a workout at the gym. You may even feel a little sore. This feeling will disappear, and you should feel energised, while retaining the increased flexibility for some time afterwards.

With a regular course of sports massage therapy you will be more flexible and less prone to injury. The aim is to get you feeling the way you OUGHT to feel!
